The Legend of Diamond Lake and
the Secret Red Diamond

Dill and his wife Patricia were Owensboro, Kentucky-based farmers who were widely respected by the local community for their charitable endeavors. What the community did not know, however, was that Dill and Patricia had been secretly coal mining and finding precious diamonds on their property for more than three generations.

While the community did not know about Dill and Patricia's diamonds, their "Boss" did, and their "Boss" was not someone to be messed with. In fact, their "Boss" required that Dill and Patricia sell him their diamonds for nearly a decade, without allowing Dill or Patricia to keep nearly any of the profit. If they didn't comply, their "Boss" said, trouble would soon follow. And so they chose to comply, but with a catch. In addition to the diamonds they gave to the "Boss", they hid many (MANY!) diamonds deep within the property's coal mining tunnels. Those coal mining tunnels were surrounded by ten lakes.

Dill and Patricia's biggest secret was that they were hiding a 40-carat rare red diamond in one of their coal mining tunnels. The red diamond is one of the rarest diamonds in the world with only three on record of ever being found. Some believe the red diamond brings immortal powers to its lucky owner.

One day, tired after receiving another threatening call from the "Boss", Dill swore to Patricia that he was done working with the "Boss" and decided that they would go into hiding. Before leaving the property, Dill removed all of the openings to the tunnels and made sure to document the location of all the hidden diamonds. Most importantly, Dill made a map of where the red diamond was located and buried the map in a box somewhere on the property, intending to one day return for his special red prize.

As the legend goes, Dill and Patricia never returned and no one ever saw them again, leaving their sacred red diamond and the map to find it hidden somewhere deep within the grounds of the property.

Many years later, the property was auctioned off to a local family who dreamed of building a campground. The beautiful rolling hills and the massive number of lakes on the property made for an ideal location to build the best campground in Kentucky. While the family was digging and working on building RV sites, they found something that looked like a diamond. With excitement, the family decided to name their new campground "Diamond Lake Resort". What the family did not know was they were literally living on a secret diamond mine.

Over the years, some guests have reported seeing bright red lights coming from the lakes on dark and rainy nights. No one has been successful at finding the lost diamonds or locating the map to find the rare red diamond. Many believe that it is a deep and dark path to get to the rare red diamond, but where that path starts remains unknown.

Maybe one day one of our guests will find it. Might that be you?

Psst…

Legend has it, there are hundreds of hidden diamonds
throughout the campground. How many can you find?
